Dedicated to the memory of Mum

I have set up this site in memory of my Mum, who sadly we lost to cervical cancer in July 1998. I originally set this page up to raise £5,000 to mark my Mum’s 20 year anniversary which was July 2018, and when I hit that target I just wanted to carry on with my fundraising, I then set a new goal, which was to hit £20k. I reached this goal in 2020, the year of lockdown by completing the 2.6 challenge with friends, although we couldn't do this together but we set up a facebook page and so many people got involved. The idea was to run, cycle, walk, horse ride or anything else for 2.6 miles a day. Or what most of us did was 26.2 miles in one week. This helped to hit £20k. So obviously I want to keep going, and I can now see £30k close by!!

I have raised this money by running half marathons with Kayley and friends, as well as hosting charity quiz nights, bake sales, coffee mornings, charity tuck shop along with lots more fundraising sponsorships and events. Without also forgetting the amazing company I used to work for, BGL Group who have fund-matched some of the fundraising I have done. I have to say, my most popular event is the Christmas Quiz at the Ploughman every December. It gets bigger and better every year!!

My Mum was the most amazing lady I have ever met and I really do think about her every day. Her number one priority was me and my two sisters, Kayley and Jayde, she did so much for everyone before doing anything for herself, and now in memory of my amazing Mum I want to put my efforts in to raising money for Thorpe Hall.

I was only lucky enough to have my Mum in my life for 12 years, but I now realise those were the most precious years of my life.

I remember Thorpe Hall nurses and staff back in July 1998, they were absolutely fantastic, they really do everything they possibly can to make their patients and family members feel comfortable and at ease at some of the hardest points in people’s lives. I have recently looked around the new Hospice whilst volunteering and was absolutely amazed by what they have done, and I hope that any money I am able to raise will help towards their ongoing need for donations.

I would also just like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported me, whether this is through sponsorship, attending my events, buying raffle tickets, baking or just general support.

A special thank you to my sister Kayley and my two best friends Lisa and Gemma for being my running buddies – we have trained hard together, run together, struggled together but then celebrated well together. They have also been a great support with helping to source raffle prizes and gaining lots of sponsorship.

Thank you to Andy (Simmo), the landlord of The Ploughman, and my partner in crime for his general support and for letting me host so many of my events there (including the famous Christmas quiz every year) and providing food free of charge. Finally, thank you to the BGL Group for the amazing fund-matching they give; it’s a massive contribution to my fundraising.
